While filming the short based on Ali Khaitlin’s famous verse «Here I come» we faced a challenging artistic task. Our director Alena Oleynik attached particular importance not only to reciting the text or shooting suitable visuals. The team’s challenge was to «weave together» the verse itself, its visual interpretation and the context in which its narrator lives. «Here I come» is a simple children’s counting-out rhyme which Ale Haitlin used to provide insight into the narrator’s whole life, starting from elementary school and ending with the most recent, bitter and difficult lessons. Nevertheless, the heroine of the verse does not give up, she stubbornly goes on seeking, and I’d like to think that she will find a new summer and new joy.
Sometimes «survive» means «win» and «record» equals to «save». This is the message we put into the short video presentation of the book «Paths of Death» about thousands of Jews who became victims of the German occupation of Odessa in 1941. However, for Joseph Kapler who miraculously survived the destruction of the Jewish ghetto, the victims are not figures in reports. These are the people with whom he grew up, studied, quarreled, made peace, and simply lived next door.
Being one of the few Odessa Jews who survived, Kapler considered it his duty to describe the heinous atrocities he witnessed and to live through this nightmare one more time, so that the phrase «never again» does not lose its meaning years after the end of World War II.
We are grateful to everyone who took partin creating the video presentation «Way sof Death», especially to the author’s grandson, Alexander Tokarev. In the video, he played the part of his own grandfather – a survivor, and therefore, a winner.
A reconnaissance drone falls on the kill line. Both sides of the conflict will find it, but next to one century-old tree on which the drone is stuck, the “dogs of war” turn out to be useless, the ammunition does not explode, and the weapon does not work. People understand that the tree does not allow them to kill each other, and they try to destroy it together...
A black and white story about a sudden impulse, with which you now have to somehow live on.
